Senior Media Relations Officer (12 month FTC)

Senior Media Relations Officer (Proactive) – 12 month FTC

We’re looking for a talented communications professional, based in either London or Manchester, to join our media team. You’ll use your experience of communications, public relations and dealing with the media to tell our story.

The Senior Media Relations Officer (Proactive) will focus on our proactive media activity. The ability to find newsworthy angles and interesting stories, and to successfully pitch them to national media, is essential. Working with a variety of national and trade media on high-profile issues, you’ll raise our profile, improve engagement and manage and enhance our reputation by:

  • Developing and delivering media activity to promote and safeguard the reputation of the GMC’s core statutory responsibilities, as well as for specific projects and campaigns.
  • Identifying and exploiting proactive opportunities to promote the role of the GMC in the media.
  • Supporting Media Relations Officer(s) in their work, including providing guidance and direction where necessary.
  • Advising colleagues, including senior managers, on media handling issues.

This is a hybrid role between home working and office working, you’ll work a minimum of one day a week in the office.

You can find more detail on the tasks you will undertake, and the essential skills required for the role, in the job description.

How to apply for the role

Please provide a CV and covering letter. The covering letter should clearly set out how you meet the essential skills for the role, which are listed in the job description. You should also include a paragraph outlining your reasons for applying for the role.

We recommend no more than two sides of A4 for the covering letter, but it can be more if required.

We will assess the information you provide against the skills required for the role and let you know whether you will progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.

If you do not provide all the above, we will not be able to progress your application and your application could be withdrawn.
