Exam Quality Panel Member

Opportunity to join us as an Exam Quality Panel Member

Any exam used in specialty training in the UK must be approved by the GMC. In March this year, the Academy of Royal Medical Colleges published its guidance on quality assurance processes for exams. We fully supported the recommendations in this publication, having previously raised concerns about errors in postgraduate medical exams.

We now want to seek assurance that the Academy’s recommendations are being embedded and driving improvements, and that the integrity of the exams we approve is preserved through robust quality management processes, which is a requirement of our standards, Excellence by design. To support this, we are recruiting a multidisciplinary expert advisory panel (the Exam Quality Panel) whose role will be to provide advice to the GMC on the maintenance of our standards via a quality assurance exercise.

We are looking for Panel Members with experience in at least one of the following categories:

  • Designing, developing, and/or delivering regulated professional exams, OR
  • Governance or quality assurance of regulated professional exams, OR
  • A Postgraduate Medical Dean, OR
  • A current doctor in post-Foundation training with an interest in medical education and/or assessment, OR
  • A doctor with experience of supporting doctors in training to take regulated exams.

Your experience can be from any background or sector. If you are a doctor, you must be registered with the GMC with a licence to practice and be in good standing.

For further information, please see the information for applicants .

We offer a daily fee of £325 with remuneration for travel and expenses. Pre-reading will be desk-based and can be done at your convenience anywhere in the UK.

Panel meetings will be held throughout 2027 on the following dates:

  • 18-19 February in London
  • 22-23 April in Manchester
  • 21-22 June in London
  • 21-22 September in Manchester
  • 22-23 November in London

This is a time-limited exercise and you must be able to commit in advance to attend some of the panel meetings in 2027, along with online training in January 2027. The dates are subject to change and may not all be needed.

As part of our commitment to diversity, we welcome candidates from a wide range of backgrounds.
