Can you turn your medical expertise to some of the most important questions in UK medicine?

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) is the tribunal service for doctors, AAs and PAs in the UK. Our tribunals make independent decisions about whether registrants are fit to practise medicine. We are a statutory committee of the GeneralMedical Council (GMC) operating separately from the investigatory role of the GMC and we are accountable to the Council of the GMC and the UK Parliament. Tribunals are made up of registrant and lay (ie non-registrant) tribunal members.

You will demonstrate integrity, sound judgement and strong analytical skills, which you will apply when making impartial and unbiased decisions that help protect the public and affect the lives of registrants. Our hearing centre is based in Manchester, and you must have the flexibility to support hearings that take place there in addition to supporting our virtual hearings.

A daily fee of £325 is payable, plus reasonable expenses.

As a Registrant Tribunal Member, you need to be a doctor registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise- if you are at a point in your career where you are reviewing your need for a LtP, get in touch so we can discuss options.

To meet our hearing requirements, we would ask that applications are only made where you can provide availability to sit for at least 35 days each year in blocks of at least 10 consecutive days at a time.

We have notably increased the number of days of availability to 35 from 20 and also specified that we require applicants to be able to sit for 10 days or more. Additionally, as we know that applicants near to partial or full retirement and / or those exploring portfolio careers where a license to practice may not be necessary may be deterred from applying, we have suggested they may wish to discuss possible.
