Investigation Adviser (1x permanent & 3x fixed term)

About the GMC

We work with doctors, physician associates (PAs), anaesthesia associates (AAs), those they care for and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors, PAs, AAs and their educators need to meet, and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors, PAs, or AAs may be at risk, we can investigate, and take action if needed.

The role

Our Fitness to Practise directorate is responsible for reviewing and investigating concerns about doctors. As part of that remit, we’re looking for Investigation Advisers to work in our Investigation Teams. As an Investigation Adviser you will be responsible for managing a caseload of investigations looking into concerns raised about a doctor’s fitness to practice.

  • You’ll liaise with doctors, healthcare organisations, members of the public and other teams in the organisation to gather information before raising a decision and recommending a course of action.
  • You’ll be operating within the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern our work. It’s a very busy, fast-paced environment. You’ll need to have an organised approach to your work and be able to work flexibly and collaboratively to progress a small caseload to conclusion.

We’re looking for people with good analytical skills, who have experience of reviewing information against a framework of established policies and guidance to identify appropriate next steps. You will need to be somebody who has an unwavering attention to detail, professionalism, and compassion towards all involved in fitness to practise.

You will receive a full induction and training on joining, with ongoing support provided in the role. The start date for successful applicants will be Monday 6 July 2026. During the first three weeks, you’ll be required to attend the office at 3 Hardman Street 5 days per week. During this period, requests for annual leave will not be accepted.  After this you will transition to a hybrid pattern of working from home and in the office. Current office attendance requirement is minimum 2 days per month (subject to change).

GMC benefits

You’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people with several excellent benefits including:

  • 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
  • A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Attractive salary that’s reviewed annually
  • Private medical insurance
  • Bike lockers and shower facilities
