International Applications Adviser (Perm and fixed-term)

International Applications Adviser
Registration and Revalidation

The General Medical Council (GMC) has several permanent and fixed term opportunities currently available for talented advisers. As an Adviser at the GMC, you will enjoy plenty of variety in working with doctors and health professionals, get out from behind your desk for practical tasks and make a positive impact protecting patients. You’ll get to support doctors on their journey through registration and revalidation, providing advice, guidance and reviewing their documents and information.

What are we looking for?
You’ll need administrative experience, a keen eye for detail and good prioritisation skills. A confident communicator who can build strong relationships with people face-to-face and by phone and email, you should also be able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.

For further information on the tasks you will undertake please refer to the job description and personal specification.

In return for your hard work, you’ll get

  • £25,500 per year, reviewed annually
  • 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
  • A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
  • Discounts at 100s of high street and online stores
  • Discounted on site gym membership

  • Employee assistance programme
  • Cycle to work scheme for those wanting a greener commute
  • Bike lockers and shower facilities

The Recruitment process and how to apply

Please provide a CV and covering letter. The covering letter should clearly set out how you meet the essential skills for the role, which are listed in the job description, outline clearly which paragraphs are linked to the essential skill number.  You should also include a paragraph which demonstrates your reason for applying for the role.

We recommend no more than 2 sides of A4 for the covering letter, but it can be more if required. We will assess the information you provide against the skills required for the role and let you know whether you will progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.

Please note, applications submitted without a cover letter will be considered incomplete and not shortlisted

As well as these roles, it is likely that further vacancies will arise within the next 6 months across a number of teams. We are therefore looking to create an appointable pool of candidates to fill these vacancies across the Registration and Revalidation directorate. If you meet the standard for the appointment, but you are not offered a role in the first instance, you will join the pool for six months. When further permanent or fixed term opportunities arise, you'll have a guaranteed interview without the need for a further application. Please note that permanent positions will be offered to the highest scoring candidates followed by the fixed term positions in a scale of highest to lowest score above the cut off mark at interview.

The GMC will consider a range of flexible working options. Current expectations are that following in-person induction and training, colleagues are in the office one day every week on a set team schedule, with additional in-office days as required.

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination. We are also committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and support the requirements of the Disability Confident interview scheme. If you have a disability and meet the cut-off mark for the essential criteria for this role as outlined in the person specification document, you will be offered an interview.

The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750)
