International Applications Adviser - Registration and Revalidation

The General Medical Council (GMC) has several permanent and fixed term opportunities currently available for Applications Advisers in the International Applications Team. The successful candidates will be at the forefront of our work ensuring patient safety in the UK. You’ll use legislation and guidance to process applications for registration from doctors with qualifications awarded overseas, ensuring those doctors meet the necessary criteria and standards to practise medicine in the UK.

What are we looking for? 

As an International Applications Adviser, you’ll be making decisions on applications for registration using procedural guidance and a range of reference materials. The ability to focus for extended periods, with a keen eye for detail, and the ability to use initiative to interpret and apply guidance to make registration decisions is required. All the while, displaying a positive and helpful attitude to colleagues and our customers, and providing them with exemplary service.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Managing a challenging caseload of registration applications in line with relevant legislation.
  • Preparing cases for referral to senior management, Assistant Registrars and the Investigation & Intelligence team.
  • Participating in the Directorates quality assurance programme including providing feedback and support to colleagues
  • Utilising a wide range of information reference material to ensure the assessment of applications is fully compliant with GMC policy, procedure and relevant legislation

Additional Information

As well as these roles, it is likely that further vacancies will arise within the next 6 months within our international applications team. We are therefore looking to create an appointable pool of candidates to fill these vacancies within the international applications team. If you meet the standard for the appointment, but you are not offered a role in the first instance, you will join the pool for six months. When further permanent or fixed term opportunities arise, you'll have a guaranteed interview without the need for a further application. Please note that permanent positions will be offered to the highest scoring candidates followed by the fixed term positions in a scale of highest to lowest score above the cut off mark at interview.

The GMC will consider a range of flexible working options. Current expectations are that following in-person induction and training, colleagues are in the office one day every week on a set team schedule, with additional in-office days as required, please note due to the nature of this role full time hours of 35hrs per week will be required.
